Orbit is a systemic lighting product that can be configured in sconce, clamp and freestanding modes. The orbital motion of the product gives a user a wide angle of adjustment while different configurations add versatility in application. Design process involved 2d & 3d explorations for form finding as well as 3d printing to calibrate pivoting motion with threaded parts. The prototype shown above is a fully functional model that can be turned and adjusted with LED taped inlaid in its housing. In production, most of the parts can be created with cast & welded metal parts that are then powder-coated. There are four color options for Orbit: paper, charcoal, moss and toffee. Different color combinations showcase how pivotal hardware can either be highlighted or tonal to the lighting fixture. The next step for this project is to further develop different configurations for floor and suspended applications to take advantage of the modular parts.
